Rodney Jarvis.

Rodney was born October 21st 1946 in Birmingham, the eldest of two sons, he joined the on 26th October 1964 and following basic training at RAF Swinderby and his trade training, he was posted to RAF Scampton, where he worked on Vulcans.

Originally from Solihull near Birmingham, Rodney was the pillion passenger on a motorcycle. He and his friend Alan Martin, the driver of the bike, were leaving the car park of a hotel at Thorpe on the Hill, just to the south of Lincoln.

As they pulled out on to the main road, they were in collision with a car. Coincidentally, another member of the RAF, Squadron Leader Thompson of RAF Uphavon drove the car. However, the two men did not know each other.

Rodney received relatively minor injuries in the crash and his broken thigh, whilst very painful, would not have caused anyone to fear for his life. Cruelly though, complications set in three days later and he died in Lincoln County Hospital as a result of globules of fat reaching his brain.

His niece, Kirsty Holder, Had the following to say about Rodney:

“He was, a man with an enquiring mind as to the workings of most electrical and mechanical things, with the ability to rebuild anything he had taken apart. An avid reader with a wicked sense of humour, an adored and loving son, brother, nephew and grandson.”
